What audio file format do I need?
MP3 for now. We may support more file types down the line.
How does Selecta figure out the BPM?
We analyze the actual audio of your track to detect its tempo — no manual tagging needed. Some tracks are trickier than others (remixes with tempo changes, for example), so you'll sometimes see a note if we're less confident in a result — always worth a quick listen to confirm.
Why does filtering by 60s BPM also show me tracks tagged in the 120s?
Tempo can be felt two ways — a track at 128 BPM and the same track felt at 64 BPM are really the same pulse, just counted differently (this is common with slower, heavier genres). So when you filter by a lower range like 40s, 50s, or 60s, we also show you the matching faster range (80s/90s, 100s/110s, or 120s/130s) — since it's genuinely the same tempo, just described two different ways.
Does my audio file get shared with other coaches?
Your file itself is never downloadable by anyone else — that never changes. If you share a track you personally uploaded to the Lab, other coaches can stream it in-app to preview it before deciding whether it's worth seeking out. Downloading a track always happens through its original SoundCloud/Spotify link, so the artist gets the credit and the plays.
Does Selecta download music for me?
Not to keep. Upload a file and it's yours, private to your library. Paste a SoundCloud link and Selecta briefly streams the audio to detect the BPM, then discards it — nothing is stored or shared. Otherwise, you're still finding and downloading music the way you already do, then bringing your finds into Selecta to organize.
Can I connect Spotify or Apple Music?
Paste a Spotify track link and Selecta pulls the title, artist, and artwork automatically. Spotify doesn't let us detect BPM the way SoundCloud does, so you'll add that one by hand. Apple Music isn't connected yet.
What if my track isn't from SoundCloud?
That's okay. Paste a Spotify link directly, or if Selecta can't find a matching link at all — or you found the track somewhere else — you can add the source when you upload it.
Can I download tracks I hear in the Lab?
No. Playback in the Lab is for previewing — deciding whether a track's worth seeking out. Downloading always happens through the original SoundCloud/Spotify link, so the artist gets the credit and the plays.
